THE SPANISH-SPEAKING WORLD - AMAZINGLY RICH AND DIVERSE

--EL MUNDO HISPANO-HABLANTE - EXCEPCIONALMENTE RICO Y DIVERSO--

–These are Eve A. Ma’s films about some hispanic heritage and latino culture/arts/history.–

It strikes me as a little strange to join together the entire Spanish-speaking world. Beyond the language, there are as many differences as there are commonalities.

Just looking at our titles, is flamenco really intimately connected with, say, the dances of the Aztecs that we see in Ricardo Peña and the Aztec Dancers? or the music of Afro-Peruvians?

The strongest connection between Spain and Latin America is that the former conquered the flourishing and important civilizations of the latter, and did their best to eliminate their cultures. And in the case of the Afro-Peruvians, they found themselves uprooted, enslaved, and treated as lesser beings.

That was all in the past, of course, and now there is at least an attempt for all to be regarded as equals. There is also pride in the language, and a partial recognition that the culture of each is valuable, something to be treasured and admired. Indeed, I. hope these films emphasize the wonderful variety and beauty of these several cultures.

SO – let us all celebrate Hispanic and Latino heritage.

Me parece un poco curioso unir la historia y las culturas de España con las de Latinoamérica, como hay tantas diferencías entre los dos.

En realidad hay tantas diferencias que semejanzas.

No necesita más que nuetros videos. ¿El flamenco tiene una relación íntimo con los bailes aztecas que vemos en Ricardo Peña: los bailes aztecas y la herencía indígena? ¿o la música de los afroperuanos?

La conexion más importante entre España y Latinoamérica es que el primero conquistó los vivantes e importantes civilizaciones del segundo, e intentó eliminar sus culturas. Y en el caso de los afroperuanos, ellos se encontraron desarriagado, esclavizado, y tratado como inferiores.

Por supuesto, esto es hablar de los siglos pasados. Ahora, hay el sentimiento que todos hay que considerarlos iguales. Las comunidades y culturas distintas también tienen orgullo de su propia cultura (y lenguaje), cosas a oreservar y admirar. A verdad, espero que mis películas subrayan la sorprendente variadad y belleza de estos pueblos.

Entonces, vamos a celebrar la herencia hispana y latina.
